Tonight is a big test against the Milwaukee Giannis’s and I couldn’t be more excited to see what the new-look Celtics do against the biggest threat in the East.
To beat the Bucks, they need to contain Giannis. Let’s be real – the Greek Freak is unstoppable, but if they can limit his damage and make the rest of the squad beat ’em the Celtics can pull out a win. So, how does one stop Giannis? Grant Williams.
The rookie 22nd overall pick for the Celtics is 6’6″ 236lb of pure BEEF and one of the strongest players in the league at age 20. He tested into the 96th percentile of overall strength for ALL NBA PLAYERS. My man is built like a brick shit-house. He is one of the unique players that can play multiple positions and play solid defense on most NBA players (think maybe a Draymond Green-type player for his potential comp). Brad is already giving him minutes to start this season at 16 per game and they are relying on him to make an impact.
He’s too small to totally guard Giannis, but his beefy body should at least be able to get in his way and cause some trouble. For an undersized rookie, that’s all we can ask. I would rather see them try Williams on Giannis instead of Tatum, who will get blown away off the dribble.
Plus I just love Willams’ attitude. He’s a hard-working guy, looking to make a career with little ego to get in the way. He understands his role and will do what the coaching staff asks him to do. A real Celtics kinda guy. When he was drafted most pundits said he was a massive reach by the Celtics. Well, FUCK THE PUNDITS. This kid may never be a superstar, but he could be a valuable and versatile piece to the future of the Boston Celtics. It all starts tonight when he helps them get an early-season win over the Bucks and the Greek Freak.
